Foreigner: Confrontation and the Light Read more Confrontation and the Light is a collection of street photography that looks at the ideas of renewal and rebirth. The photographs were taken in London, Japan, Spain, Lisbon and Amsterdam over several years.
To support the theme of renewal, the photographs were presented inside old hardback books collected from charity shops. Not only did this mean that the photographs would give each book a new lease of life, but their own history and details would give every copy a unique character. Many of the books are over one hundred years old and have developed a natural beauty, in terms of quality, texture and smell that could not be matched by modern production methods.
In total thirty books were made, each one having its original contents partially stamped out by hand, and its cover painted black. The books were available to purchase at The Photographer’s Gallery, London and Foyles, London. Currently sold out.
